This project is a Horizon 2020 Twinning action programme in which three institutions from three different countries are teamed up: UCY (Universtiy of Cyprus), AIT (Austrian Institue of Technology) and DTU (Denmark Technological University. Twinning addresses networking gaps and deficiencies between research institutions of low performing Member States and internationally-leading counterparts at EU level. Many promising institutions such as the PVlab of the university of Cyprus (UCY) are in lower performing countries (such as Cyprus) whicm makes it difficult to network and collaborate with higher performing institutions. Twinning aims to address this gap by band they due to the tendency of research-intensive institutions. Twinning aims to end this effect by bringing together in the same project and in very close collaborations institutions from low and high performing countries. We expect that this project will have tremendous benefits not only to the institutions involved but to also the country of Cyprus itself (industry and academia)

Research and Innovation (R&I)

Cyprus is a small, service-oriented economy that needs a new integrated innovation strategy to valorise its opportunities and strengths. Its economy is currently facing the challenge of strengthening its external competitiveness while working towards reversing a deteriorating outlook for growth and an increasing trend for unemployment. Moreover, the economic crisis in Cyprus and its ongoing aftermath have critically affected the R&I sector of the country.


A number of improvements will be the result of this project. Increased peer reviewed publications and citation, successful participation in national and EU programs, Collaboration agreements with businesses/industry, New innovative products & services, Extended synergies between UCY-AIT, UCY-DTU due to increased R&I capacity.
