Mr Michalis Florides
Research Fellow

Michalis Florides is a PhD student (Research Associate) in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Cyprus. He studied for his MEng degree at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne where he graduated with a First Class degree. Prior to coming to the University of Cyprus, Michalis worked as an Automation Engineer in Cyprus during summer time but his main focus was Power Electronics. During his three month Industrial Placement at Sevcon Ltd in Stage IV at Newcastle University he was offered a job after graduation. He worked for three years in the UK at Sevcon Ltd as a Development Engineer designing both AC and DC Motor Controllers for Battery Powered Electric Vehicles plus DC/DC Converters. In addition to design, Michalis was doing Electrical, Electronic and EMC testing/troubleshooting. His current research interest is PV Systems focusing on Degradation Estimation and Potential Induced Degradation (PID) detection algorithms. Furthermore, his research extends in Battery Storage Systems for PV and Energy Management. Finally, it is worth mentioning that Michalis won a first and second prize in two National Technology Competitions during his high school studies in Cyprus by designing and building two innovative devices.
